Doorways and Portals between life and death are extremely culturally widespread. European rationalist claims about the impossibility of connection with the dead is a recent minority cult’.

Dr Elisabeth Laasonen Belgrano

What a time we live in when death, an intrinsic part of life, is still so feared and denied. When, as a largely secular society, we lack a coherent narrative around death and what happens after, we risk finding ourselves adrift on unstable ground when faced with mortality.

Drawing on her personal experience of the sudden loss of her eldest daughter Lily Rose, Henrietta will share her journey navigating the sacred territory of death, and introduce her recently produced picture book, Poppy and the Horse.

In this talk for The Convivial, Henrietta will invite us to enter into an enquiry around mortality and what lies beyond. There will be an additional focus on the experience of children within this discourse which will evolve through discussion, creative prompts and a guided visualisation.

Speaker

Henrietta is a writer, workshop leader and multidisciplinary artist and maker…and mother of five. She recently completed an MA in Authorial Practice at Falmouth Uni. She is currently establishing Hearthwing, a space where people can find strength, resources and resilience in this challenging global paradigm. A place of rooting in the sacred of daily life to expand consciousness and step into personal power.
