About the events:
The relaxed gatherings at each venue will begin with short informal presentations from artists working locally who will share current practice, recent work or work in progress. We will then move into a circle and a Q&A with Hettie, where you can ask her anything!
This will be a space for conversation and curiosity, questions about the art world, about sustaining a practice, about re‑entry, continuity and the realities of creative life.
Hettie will be selling and signing copies of her book - a generous, myth‑busting guide for artists whose lives are complicated and human.
How to Enter the Art World after a late start, a first career, illness, raising children, a crisis of confidence, leaving it in disgust...
Can you make it without going to art school? Can you get back into the art world after years away? And what does success actually mean? How to Enter the Art World is a grown-up guide for any artist whose life is complicated, demanding and, well, human. Informed by years spent working with artists and dozens of candid interviews, it is a myth-busting bonanza full of insights, ideas and inspiration. Frank, funny and occasionally forthright, this is your friend on the path (back) into the art world.

More about the venues
This is a first collaboration between Art Centre Penryn and The Convivial. We're keen to collaborate and we thought that by hosting sessions in each of our venues we can offer this friendly and informative event to more people, while keeping each session intimate. It's also a chance for us to introduce our audiences to each other. The shared lunch will be an opportunity for everyone to come together.
Art Centre Penryn is a creative space in the making, we’re transforming a heritage building into a centre for contemporary art. The After Session at Art Centre Penryn will take place in the art room, on the ground floor of the school room building, behind the former chapel. The shared lunch will be in the former chapel building, or outside weather permitting.artcentrepenryn.org
The Convivial is a civic learning space for imagination, ecology and place-based research & arts. The After Session at The Convivial will take place in the community ‘living room’ which is used for gatherings, workshops, rituals and other events. Enough chairs for everyone, meditation cushions also available for those who would like them.
